Frederick the Great project

Digital correspondence of Frederick the Great — never previously published!

Editorial Principles

The transcription seeks to give a maximally accurate rendering of the original without seeking to standardise the spelling. It is not however possible to render capitalisation without interpretations that are open to challenge, since in the case of some letters of the alphabet there is no visually reliable distinction between lower case and upper case.

Acknowledgements

I am most grateful to Caroline Warman for advice concerning the transcription and translation of the letter, to Jürgen Luh for advice on matters relating to the circumstances and context in which the letter was written, and above all to the staff of the Bodleian Library.
